Drugs For Hypertension Flashcards
Follow the ABCD
ACE/AT-1 Inhibitors, Beta Blockers, Ca2+ channel inhibitors and Diuretics
ACE inhibitors
Will inhibit the Angiotensin Converting Enzyme and hence inhibits Angiotensin I to angiotensin II
AT-1 inhibitors
Will inihibt the AT-1 receptors, the targets of Angiotensin II
Actions of AT-1 receptors
They are GPCR that promote
- Vasoconstriction
- Aldosterone synthesis
- vasopressin secretion
- Cardiac hypertrophy
- SM cell proliferaton
Drugs that block ACE
The Pril family
- Captopril
- Enalopril
- Perindopril
- Ramipril
Drugs that Block AT-1
The Sartan family
- Candsartan
- losartan
- Irbesartan
Beta-Blockers Drugs include
B1 specific - Atenolol and Metoprolol
B1 and B2 specific - Propanolol and Timolol
Partial B1 and B2 - Pindolol
Ca2+ inhibitoris
To regulate Blood pressure the Dihydropyradines are used
- Felodipine
- Nifedipine
Why do we use Diuretics
Are used to remove any excess water in the system to reduce the level of water content in the plasma
List of Diuretics
Loop acting - Frusemide Thiazides - Indamide - Hydrochlorothiazide - Bendrofluzide K+ sparing - Spirolactone - Triamterene Osmotics - Manitol
