define the word drug
a drug is any chemical that changes with the chemical reactions in cells
define the word medicines
medicines are drugs that are used to treat or prevent disease
what is the first stage of drug trials
to test it on cells, to test for safety
second part of drug trials
test on live animals, to see if it works, for side effects
third part of drug trials
test on a small group of healthy volunteers, test for safety, for side effects
fourth test for drug trials
test on small group of paitents, to see if the drug works, for side effects
last stage of drug trials
test on a large group of patients, to work out the best dose, for side effects
what is the placebo effect
this is the blind test, when the doctor gives 2 patients either the drug or just a sugar tablet, so the patient with the placebo(the fake) will think its the druf and think they feel better. this is the placebo effect.
what is the double blind test?
this is when the placebo effect is in place but this time the doctor and paitents doesnt know which is the fake and real drug but someone does with all the numbers.
what do painkillers do
they block pain receptors from the brain
examples of depressants
alcohol and heroin
what do stimulants do
they speed up electrical impulses
examples of hallucinogens
LSD- lysergic acid and diethylamide
PCP- pysilocybin
examples of stimulants
caffeine and cocaine
what do depressants do
they slow down messages from the brain
