Drugs Flashcards
What is the class and MOA of Paclitaxel?
Taxanes
Prevents microtubule depolymerization - cell cycle arrest in Anaphase
Class and MOA of Vinblastine
Vinca alkaloid
Inhibits tubule polymerization –> inhibits mitotic spindle formation
Class and side effects of Vincristine
Vinca alkaloid
Peripheral neuropathy
Class and side effects of Vinblastine
Vinca alkaloid
Bone marrow suppression (preferred for Hodkins lymphoma)
In what phase of the cell cycle do Vinca Alkaloids cause mitotic arrest and how?
Metaphase
Inhibition of tubule polymerization prevent microtubules from binding to kinetochores –> failure at spindle checkpoint
In what phase of the cell cycle do Taxanes cause mitotic arrest and how?
Anaphase
Inhibition of microtubule depolymerization –> cell cannot break down microtubules to pull sister chromatids apart –> arrests at onset of anaphase
What medication is preferred in the treatment of Hodkin’s lymphoma?
Vinblastine
What is the method of action for aspirin?
Aspirin inhibits COX with stops the release of TxA –> less platelet activation - aids in primary prevention
What is the method of action for eptifibatide?
Competitive inhibitor of GpIIb receptor –> prevents new clots by inhibiting platelet aggregation
What is the method of action of clopidogrel?
Blocks ADP from binding with P2Y12 receptor –> inhibits GpIIb receptor activation
Must go through first pass metabolism to be activated
