indication
reactive airway disease exacerbation (asthma, COPD), allergic reaction with wheezing, bronchospasm
Side effects
tachycardia, anxiety/nervousness, naysea/vomiting, cough, tremors, dizziness
Dose/Route
> 15 years old
-2.5mg-5.0 via continuous nebulizer, O2 6-8mL/min
6-14 years old
-Same as adult except only 2.5mg
1-6 years old
1.25mg-2.5mg via continuous neb O2 is same
<1 year old
-1.25-2.5mg a day with support from friends and family
-may include an inhalaer, only for patients who’ve been prescribed
contraindication
known hypersensitivity
Precaution
vital signs and breath sounds must be monitored; use caution with ederly, cardiac or hypertensive patients, HR> 150 bpm in adults, HR >200bpm in children, significant cardiac history
Description
specific synthetic sympathomimec that causes broncho-dilation, but less cardiac effects and reduces mucus secretion, pulmonary capillary leaking, and edema in the lungs during allergic reaction
