Alpha blocker
ACE Inhibitors
Angiotensin converting enyzme inhibitors block conversion of angiotensin 1 into angiotensin 2. Less angiotensin 2 means lower blood pressure due to reduced vasoconstriction.
ARB
Angiotensin 2 receptor blockers blocks receptors for angiotensin 2, preventing its effects on vasoconstriction. Thus, helps lower blood pressure.
Antibiotics
Inhibits reproduction of bacteria. Several sub classes exist.
Anti-convulsants
Antieliptics and antiseizure drugs supress the rapid firing of neurons.
Anti-diabetics
Sulfonylureas are used to lower blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetics.
Benzodiazepines
Used as anti-anxiety and anti-seizure agents, muscle relaxants, sedatives, and hypnotics.
Beta Blockers
Beta-adrenergic blocking agents block adrenaline receptors to mitigate the fight or flight response. Desired effect is to minimize cardiac effects from adrenaline.
Ca Channel Blockers
Block Calcium ion channels in cardiac muscle and blood vessels to slow down cardiac activity.
Diuretics
Mainly treat hypertension by promoting elimination of water from the blood, lower blood pressure and cardiac load.
HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors
Statins inhibit the body’s cholesterol production.
NSAID
Commonly used as non-narcotic pain killer and fever reducers.
Opioid
Serve as analgesic by decreasing perception of pain and increase pain tolerance.
Proton Pump Inhibitors
Inhibit the action of of gastric proton pump, there by reducing gastric acid production.
SSRI
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors increase body serotonin levels by preventing the presynaptic neuron from taking serotonin out of the synapse. Generally used as antidepressants.
Corticosteroids
Often known as steroids, these are an anti-inflammatory drugs.
