Steering drills

A

At least every 3 months

The master of a vessel must ensure that, within 12 hours before the vessel’s departure from a port, the vessel’s steering gear is checked and tested by the vessel’s seafarers in accordance with paragraphs 1 and 2 of Regulation 26 of Chapter V of SOLAS.

Confined space

A

At least every 2 months
[Note: MC 92 adopted amendments to SOLAS regulation III/19, on emergency training and drills, to
mandate enclosed-space entry and rescue drills, which will require crew members with enclosed-3
space entry or rescue responsibilities to participate in an enclosed-space entry and rescue drill at
least once every two months. The amendments are expected to enter into force on 1 January 2015.]

Fire

A
continuous ringing of the bell

at least once in each consecutive 3 months — a practical demonstration of the use of the portable fire extinguishers must be given by expending the charge of at least 1 extinguisher;
Engineer
