Structure
the structure of the organisation: those factors that do not change easily, e.g., buildings, locations, environment, groups of people (staff, suppliers, customers …).
Processes
the processes or transformations carried out to achieve its goals.
Issues
the issues expressed or felt by organisational members (complaints, criticisms, suggestions, endorsements).

Expand
Prioritise
Symbols
Show facts
Circle
Draw a large circle representing the boundary of the problem situation
People who are of concern
Add in the people who are of concern within the problem situation
People who operate or control
Add in the people who operate or control the problem situation
Outside people and things
Add the people & things which affect the situation from outside
Relationships
Show relationships by arrows. What is the relationship? Label the arrows if it helps use symbols
Conflict
Identify actual or potential conflict
Speech
Put in speech bubbles of the main people’s worries, concerns, issues
Expand
If necessary expand parts on to separate sheets
Prioritise
Show priorities by the amount of symbols linked to a relationship or person
Symbols
Use any symbols you like as long as they are clear and vivid (use eyes, ears.., reports, lorries, crossed swords, houses etc.)
