Water flowing on top of the ground
What is ground water flow?
Water stored in porous rocks deep below the ground

Water flowing downhill through the soil

An extensive area of land regarded as being visually and physically distinct
What is erosion?
The wearing away and removal of the land by rivers, glaciers and the wind. Erosion removes debris and provides an input into the river or coastal system

The height and shape of the land
What are the main causes of flooding?
Rainfall and snowmelt

Relief, type of rock and intensity of rainfall
What human factors increase the risk of flooding?
Urbanisation, deforestation and agriculture
