Dopamine
A neurotransmitter involved in movement emotion and cognition.
It has a significant role in conditions such as Parkinson disease as well as schizophrenia
Levodopa
A drug used to increase dopamine levels in the brain
Can be used in treating Parkinson’s by alienated symptoms such as tremors
Mesolithic pathway
A neutral pathway that carries dopamine from ventral regimental area —> nucleus accumbers associated with pos skizo symptoms eg hallucinations
Mesocortical pathway
Dopa pathway that transmits signals from ventral regimental area to frontal lobe
Important for emotion responses , motivation and cognitive functions
Dopamine Receptor subtypes
Various types of dopa rectors (D1-D5) in different parts of the brain including cerebral cortex and limbic system
