Domain 3.3 Flashcards
list the three UPS types and describe them
Standby/offline -
Low cost in home
Battery will always be charged
If system finds main power not available, systems will switch to battery power.
line-interactive -
Faster switch over time than offline/standby
- offers additional sag or over voltage protection
on-line/Double Conversion -
Highest cost, highest availability, lowest switch over time.
Systems run off of the inverter on the UPS, So if power goes out, there is no switching process.
Describe a cloud site for operations resiliency
When using an established cloud provider, they can provide enough resources for business continuity.
The major challenge is knowing how long you will need the services and managing the online configuration.
This still requires applications and data to be moved.
Describe an active-passive redundancy option:
Two devices are installed and configured, but only one device operates at a single time.
If one device fails, the other takes over.
configuration and failover information is constantly synchronized as fail over may occur at any moment.
Describe an Active-Active configuration
Two devices are configured and working at the same time.
More expensive, complicated to operate
Must be monitored by experienced personnel
What is a diverse path
Multiple network paths are deployed across the network to provide complete route redundancy.
There is no reliance on a single link or ISP for the traffic.
May requrie additional hardware and engineering
What is FHRP
First hop redundancy protocol
Computers are configured with a default gateway, but there is a second router available that can act as DG in the event of a failure of the first one.
What is VRRP?
Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol
The default router isn’t real
Devices use a virtual IP for the default gateway
If a router disappears another one takes it place and data continues to flow.
What is an RTO
Recovery Time Objective
This is the time that services need to be restored by to prevent damage to the business
What is an RPO
Recovery point objective
How much data loss is acceptable.
RPO details how much data must be available in the event of system failure
What is an MTTR
Mean Time to Repair
Time required to resolve an issue
What is an MTBF
Mean time before failure
Predict the amount of time between outages
True or False:
Every device will have a configuration and these configurations should be backed up in the event that a restore operation is needed
True
