why did the Docklands decline?
By the 1970s the drops were declined. New container ships were being used and the documents were no longer large enough to hold them one by one into the 1980s they were empty
How was the area regenerated?
in 1981 the London Docklands development cooperation was set up between 1981 and 1998. Many changes occurred within London Dublin costing one .8 billion this regeneration had both positive and negative effects on the Docklands.
Success in regeneration
employment – low rent attracted a number of high-tech and financial firms. This includes the live house ITV Studios and daily telegraph newspaper. Over 100,000 people have an input in Canary wharf helping London become a major financial centre.
Housing – many of the former warehouses have been transformed to luxury flats (gentrification) local cost housing has also been built along with the renovation of council owned properties.
Leisure – area close a number of parts have been created where buildings once stood (millennium dome)
How has regeneration helped change employment patterns in London (Docklands)?
since 1994 London has experienced continuous job growth most jobs and the surfacing history particularly in professional and service industry. There has been a decline in manufacturing jobs with few factories left in London. London development cooperation started to revitalise the area in 1981. By attracting investors. This became a model for a generation project around the UK. One key feature is Canary wolf which has high-rise buildings and international banks over 100,000 people are employed in conjunction with the city of London the Ducklands has helpedmake London a global major financial hub.
