Do all Christians believe in the Trinity? Flashcards
What meaning does the Trinity have on Christians
The Trinity is a vital way of explaining both how God could become humans as Jesus and also how His power is felt in the world today through the Holy Spirit.
What do other denomination believe about the trinity?
They believe that the Trinity leads to the idea that there is more than one God and so puts the monotheism of Christianity in danger. They see it as going against the Ten commandments in Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other God before me”. Unitarians such as Christadelphians do not believe in the trinity.
Recall the quote from Matthew 5:48 about God and how to live
“Be perfect therefore as your heavenly father is perfect”
Recall John 14:16-17 about the Holy Spirit being in all Christians
“And I will ask the father and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever- the Spirit of truth. the world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you”
Recall Philippians 2:5-8
“In your relationships with one another have the same mind-set as Christ Jesus:
Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness and being found in the appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death and even death on a cross.
What point is John Wesley making?
“Bring me a worm that can comprehend a man and then I will shown you a man that can comprehend the Triune God/”
This is an important quote that highlights how understanding God is impossible but relies in faith and belief. To describe a worm comprehending a man shows how we are to complex for worms to understand in the same way how God is too complex to understand.
What does “Trinity” mean
Christian belief that God has three parts. The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.
