Q

EBV

A

Transmitted: resp secretion/saliva; “kissing disease”
Causes: MOno-fever, HSMegaly, pharyngitis, and LADenopathy of esp posterior cervical. +monospot
Patho: infects B-cells through CD21–> atypical lymphocytes on peripheral smear BUT NOT B_CELLS but REACTIVE T-cells
**assoc w/ lymphomas (ie Burkitt’s), nasopharyngeal carcinoma

CMV

A

Transmitted: congenitally, transfusion, sex, saliva, urine, transplant
Causes:
Congenital, mono (-monospot), PNA, retinitis.
other: owl like inclusion in infected cells; latent in mOnOnuclear cells
