DNA replication, the cell cycle and mitosis Flashcards
DNA replication fidelity: explain how accuracy is maintained by proof-reading, DNA repair and the use of RNA primers
1
Q
lagging strand and RNA primers
A
synthesised in 3’ to 5’ direction as template is 5’ to 3’; RNA primers added along strand and removed by ribonuclease (5’ to 3’ exonuclease activity)
2
Q
DNA polymerase as a proof reader
A
proof reads as dNTP added; if wrong, exonuclease activity removes it (phosphodiester bonds hydrolysed using 3’ to 5’ exonuclease activity of DNA polymerase)
