dna replication Flashcards
which side do monomers add to?
the growing 3’ end
which way does dna grow
5’-3’
dna replication is discontinuous on which strand
lagging strand
Okazaki fragments
discontinuous pieces of dna on lagging daughter strand
RNA primer
initiates syntheses of new dna, is needed on each new part including all okazaki fragments
how many replication origens do prokaryotes have
1
how many replication origens do uekaryotes have
uncountable amount more than 10,000
helicase
unwinds the parental DNA strand
single stranded binding protein
stabilizes single strands of DNA
primase
adds an rna primer: a rna polymerase
DNa Polymerase
extends an RNA primer and acts as the site of the growing chain/ adds nucleotides
can also proof read and correct own errors
sliding clamp
the clamp protein binds DNA polymerase and prevents this enzyme from dissociating from the template DNA strand
dna ligase
forms the bond joining the 2 dna fragments
when you end the dna you have to take out the rna primer, how do you fix this
telomerase!
telomerase
telomerase repeats the ends of the template strand , and then the new segment can be formed so that the original telomere in the template strand is completely restored
prevents succesive shortening of daughter strand
dna ligase
It is used in cells to join together the Okazaki fragments which are formed on the lagging strand during DNA replication
*repair at the end *
Nuclease
removes all rna primers
