DNA+Mitosis Flashcards
Label the three parts of a nucleotide
phosphate = simple sugar
Phosphate group = phosphorus surrounded by 4 oxygen
Nitrogen base = carbon ring containing 1 or more nitrogen
What are the base pair rules for RNA and DNA?
Adénine A goes with Thymine T-2 Hydrogen bonds (apple and tree)
Guanine G goes with Cytosine C-3 Hydrogen bonds (car and garage)
What is replication and in which phase of phase does it occur?
Réplication - DNA makes a copy of itself, Enzyme zips DNA. Happens in interphase
List the phases of the cell cycle
G1 - cell doubles in size
S - DNA replicates, Enzyme unzips
G2 - Rapid cell growth to prepare for Mitosis
Describe the cycle of mitosis
A. Prophase: chromosomes condensé and spindle fibers attach to centromere
B. Metaphase: chromosomes line up with spindle fibers
C. Anaphase: spindle fibers pull apart chromosomes breaking centromere
D. Telophase: spindle fibers dissolve and chromatids elongate
Cytokinesis: division of the cytoplasm into two new cells
