Q

What is DNA?

A

DNA is a double helix structure that looks like a twisted ladder. The strands of the double helix are bonded by hydrogen. It consists of our genetic information and it is found in the nucleus. DNA consists of subunits called nucleotides which contain one phosphate , one deoxyribose sugar and one of the four nitrogenous bases. The deoxyribose sugar and phosphate together make up the sugar phosphate backbone. There are 4 types of nitrogenous bases which are Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine and thymine. But adenine can only pair up with thymine and Guanine can only pair up with cytosine because of their chemicals and shape.

Q

How does The watson crick model show the replication in DNA ?

A

Prior to cell division the DNA must replicate itself. In the new way every cell will have the exact copy of DNA . This process is called replication . Replication involves three steps :
The nitrogenous bases start to split apart from each other at the end of DNA ladder.
New nucleotides are transported into place and liked together to make contemporary strand according to the sequence of the first one.
At the end two new helices are formed
