Q

what are the main issues with DMF index?

A

missing teeth may have

  • been due to perio disease or trauma instead of caries
  • not erupted yet

the tooth can only be in one condition

  • no variation on filling size
  • fillings due to trauma?
  • tooth may be filled but also decayed so which one??

the impact is rated the same for a missing tooth and a filled or decayed tooth ie all 1 point but a filled tooth is better than a missing tooth
