They understand that although marriage is for life, things may not always work out. So, the priest will try to help them resolve their differences but if they are unable to they accept divorce sometimes happens and it may be the kindest solution as it may end in conflict.
Why is divorce permitted by the Church of England?
Because God would not want people to be unhappy, and forcing a couple to remain trapped in a loveless marriage would hurt them and their family, so divorce is the kindest thing to do.

When love dies between a couple as well as the death of a partner.

What are the Roman Catholic beliefs on re-marriage?
Roman Catholics do not permit a re-marriage after a civil divorce. This is because the divorce partner is making promises in the presence of God that they have already broken before. The church allows them to refuse to carry out a re-marriage.

Other Christians accept re-marriage because Jesus also taught them forgiveness after someone makes a mistake.
