increase glucose

asses vital signs, weight, urine output
Loop diuretics
acts on ascending loop of Henle
excrete sodium, water, potassium, calcium, magnesium
Loop diuretics side effects
muscle cramps, hyperuricemia, hearing loss, metabolic alkalosis
Loop diuretics analyze cues
fluid overload, hypertension-edema + hypertension decrease
Loop diuretics take action
administer IV furosemide slowly
fast = hearing loss
Osmotic diuretics
increase sodium reabsorption
excrete sodium (norm 7-15), chloride, potassium, water
Osmotic diuretics use
decrease ICP + IOP
promote the excretion of toxic substances
Osmotic diuretics side effects
blurred vision, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, pulmonary edema, tachycardia!
Potassium-sparing diuretics
block action of aldosterone
promote sodium/water excretion + potassium retention
Potassium-sparing diuretics use
edema due to heart failure + cirrhosis of the liver (tissue)
Potassium-sparing diuretics side effects
hyperkalemia, muscle cramp, paresthesia
Potassium-sparing diuretics analyze clues

Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors
block action of enzyme carbonic anhydrase
excrete sodium, potassium, bicarb
Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors use
decrease IOP in patients with open-angle (chronic) glaucoma
Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors side effects
confusion, hypotension, metabolic acidosis, crystalluria
