Types of disturbances in perception
Hallucination, illusion, unreality state
What is hallucination
False perceptions experienced in the absence of external stimuli, can involve any of the five senses.
Hallucinations types
Olfactory: smelling smells that doesn’t exist
Auditory: hearing voices when none are present
Visual: seeing things that are not there
Gustatory: experiencing taste in the absence of stimuli
Tactile: feeling touch sensation in the absence of stimuli
Illusion
False perception with an external stimulus, can involve any of the five senses.
Unreality states
Depersonalisation
Derealisation
Visual illusion
The individual who sees a rope and perceives that it is a snake.
Auditory illusion
The yowling of a cat may be heard by a mother as the cry of her child.
Depersonalization
A phenomenon whereby a person experience a sense of unreality or self – estrangement.
Derealization
The false perception by a person that the environment has changes while nothing actually has changed
