Distributions Flashcards
1
Q
What are Distributions?
A
- A type of histogram
- Shows the frequency of a characteristic to illustrate the mean and the spread of data
2
Q
What is a Normal Distribution?
A
- Occurs when the majority of scores are close to the mean with a decreasing number above or below the mean
- Data is roughly symmetrical
- Data forms a bell curve
- Mean, median and mode normally the same
3
Q
What is Positively Skewed Distribution?
A
- Occurs when there is a cluster of scores around the lower end of the data set
- The curve has a tail on the right
- The mean is higher than the median and mode
- Most scores are below the mean
4
Q
What is Negatively Skewed Distribution?
A
- Occurs when there is a cluster of scores around the higher end of the data set
- The curve has a tail on the left
- The mean is lower than the median and mode
- Most scores are above the mean
