Aims, Variables and Hypothesis Flashcards
1
Q
What is an Independent Variable?
A
-The variable that is chosen by the experimenter to be manipulated
2
Q
What is a Dependant Variable?
A
-The variable which is chosen by the experimenter to be measured
3
Q
What is an Extraneous Variable?
A
-Any variable, which if not controlled by the experimenter, could effect the DV
4
Q
What is a directional hypothesis?
A
- A directional hypothesis predicts the direction of the results
- It states exactly how the DV will be affected by the IV
5
Q
What is a non-directional hypothesis?
A
- A non-directional hypothesis does not predict the direction of the results
- It merely states that the DV will be affected by the IV but does not suggest how
6
Q
What is a null hypothesis?
A
- A null hypothesis states that there is no relationship between the two variables
- There will be no changes in the DV due to the manipulation of the IV
