Dissociation
change in memory and attention (loss of memory), relatively common (spacing out or daydreaming), and it becomes pathological when an involuntary escape from reality characterized by a disconnection between: thoughts, identity, consciousness, and memory
Symptoms
significant memory loss, depersonalization, derealization, depression, anxiety, and suicidality, lack of self identity/identity confusion/alteration
Sub Types of Dissociative Identity Disorders
dissociative amnesia, depersonalization disorder, dissociative identity disorder
Dissociative Amnesia
loss of memory, fugue state (confused about who they are and start a new life with a new identity), and onset comes on fast but duration is short
Depersonalization Disorder
either or both together: depersonalization or derealization
Dissociative Identity Disorder
it was known as MPD, 2 or more distinct personalities, no memories from when other personality is present (ongoing memory gaps), and very real physiological evidence
Etiology
trauma, self development, and the prevalence rates are 1.5% and their are no gender differences
