Define DIC?
A
- Pathological activation of coagulation
- Results in bleeding and widespread microvascular thrombosis

What are the causes of DIC?
A
INFECTION
-gram -ve, meningococcal, viral
MALIGNANCY
-solid tumours, leukaemia
OBSTETRIC
-Eclapmsia, retained placenta, amniotic fluid embolus
IMMUNOLOGICAL
-Anaphylaxis
LIVER DISEASE
-Acute liver disease, cirrhosis

What are the symptoms of DIC?
A
- Haemorrhage
- Widespread microthrombi
- Large vessel thrombosis
- Haemorrhagic tissue necrosis

A
BLOODS -Platelets - -PT/INR + -APTT + -Fibrinogen - D-dimer ++

What is the management of DIC?
A
- Treat underlying cause
- FFP, Platelets, Cryoprecipitate
