Dissection 20 Flashcards
What is the strongest ligament in the body?
the iliofemoral
The knee joint is _______ and can cause which movements?
biaxial; flexion/ extension and rotation
What is genu varus?
proximal tibia is laterally directed; “bow legged
What is the genus valgrum ?
proximal tibia is medially directed; “knock kneed”
What are the anterior thigh muscles?
ilopsoas, quadratus femoris, sartorius, and pectinius
What movement does the ilopsoas cause?
It is a strong flexor of the hip
What movement does the sartorius muscle cause?
flexes, laterally rotates and abducts the hip joint
flexes and medially rotates the knee joint
Which head of the quadriceps femoris crosses the hip joint?
the rectus femoris (FLEXES the hip)
What movement does the pectinus cause?
flexes and adducts the hip joint
What is the pectinus nerve innervated by?
The obturator OR femoral nerve
What are the medial thigh muscles?
The adductor longus and brevis, adductor magnus and gracilis
What are the main actions of the medial thigh muscles?
adduction, flexion, and medial rotation
What are the medial thigh muscles innervated by?
The obturator nerve
The posterior part of the adductor magus causes what movement and is innervated by what?
extension and tibial nerve
What are the muscles of the posterior thigh?
semitendonous, semimembranosus, and biceps femoris
What innervates the posterior thigh muscles?
Tibial nerve
What innervates the short head of the biceps femoris tendon?
the common peroneal
What are the actions of the semitendonous and the semimembranous muscles?
hip: extension, knee: flexion and medial rotation
What are the actions of the biceps femoris?
hip: extension; knee: flexion and medial rotation
What are the borders of the femoral triangle?
inguinal ligament, sartorius, and adductor longus
what travels through the femoral triangle?
iliopsoas and pectineus

femoral, superior and inferior gluteal and common fibular
The lateral cutaneous nerve is made up of what roots?
L2 and L3
What travels though the popiteal fossa?
the popliteal nerve, artery and the tibial nerve (and common fibular nerve)
What makes up the borders of the popliteal fossa?
Gastrocnemius, biceps femoris and semitendonosus and semimembranosus
What arteries make up the cruciate anastomosis?
medial and lateral femoral circumflex arteries, the first perforating branch of the deep femoral and the inferior gluteal
