Dissection 11 Flashcards
Posterior cutaneous nerve of the thigh
S1-S3
medial to the sciatic nerve
Where does the sciatic nerve emerge from?
Inferior to piriformis
What does the sciatic nerve divide into?
The tibial nerve and the common fibular nerve
Sciatic nerve
L4-S3
What forms the superior border of the popliteal fossa?
The hamstring muscles
Where do the perforating arteries come from?
Come from the profunda femoris artery (enter the hamstrings on their deep surface)
What do the hamstring muscles do?
Extend the hip joint
Flex the knee joint
Where does the biceps femoris attach to?
The lateral aspect of the head of the fibula (linea aspera of the femur)
Why can the short head of the biceps femoris not be considered a “true” hamstring muscle?
It attaches proximally to the linea aspera of the femur, not the ischial tuberosity
It does not cross the hip joint and therefore does not contribute to the movement of the hip joint
It is supplied by the common fibular branch of the sciatic nerve rather than the tibial branch
Where do the semitendinous and semimebranous attach to?
The proximal tibia
What increases the depth of the acetabulum?
The acetabular labrum
What does the ligament of the head of femur attach?
Attaches the femur to the depth of the acetabulum
ruptured during dislocation
What is special about the ligament of the head of the femur in children?
The artery to the head of the femur runs within it (only in children, obliterated in adulthood)
