Proximally: iliac crest, sacrum, sacrotuberous ligament and coccyx
Distally: iliotibial tract
Most powerful extensor of the hip

Muscle needed to get out of chair/climb up stairs
Gluteus maximus
Inferior gluteal neurovascular bundle
This bundle contains the inferior gluteal artery, vein and nerve (L5, S1 and S2)
What supplies the gluteus maximus?
Inferior gluteal neurovascular bundle
What supplies the gluteus medius and minimus?
Superior gluteal nerve bundle
