failure to reabsorb water in the large intestine leads to watery stool, dehydration can lead to death

a generic name used to describe vomiting and diarrhea
What are causes of diarrhea/dysentery?
parasitic infection, bacterial infection, viruses, food allergy/intolerance
What is cholera?
cholera bacteria causes diarrhea, leads to massive loss of water & can be fatal

bacteria transmitted through unclean water sources and contaminated food

What is hepatitis A?
caused by eating food or water infected with the virus

transmitted through body fluid (STI), can lead to long term chronic disease and liver failure
What is IBS?
muscles in the bowel may contract too forcefully or weakly, too slowly or too rapidly
What are hemorrhoids?
swollen veins in the anus/lower rectum, may result from straining during bowel movements
What is lactose intolerance?
inability to digest milk, can cause upset stomach
What is celiac disease?
when gluten is digested the immune system responds by damaging villi
