16
Q

what are criterias to check beforr doing apnea test

A

core body temp > 32
systolic bp > 90
normal pco2 (35-45)
paO2 >200

17
Q

steps of apnea test

A

1) pre- oxygenate pt for 10min with 100% to achieve >200 paO2

2) disconnect ventilator

3) monitor for resp effort

4) monitor vitals if hypoxemic stop

5) measure paCO2 draw arterial blood gas take baseline then measure again after 8-10min when signs indicate hypercapnia

18
Q

what results in positive apnea test

A

if no resp effort is observed
if paCO2>60 or a rise of > 20 from baseline
