Excessive thirst
Define adipsia
a disease characterized by the absence of thirst even in the presence of body water depletion or salt excess
Define anorexia
an eating disorder characterized by restriction of food intake leading to low body weight, typically accompanied by intense fear of gaining weight anddisturbedperception of body weight and image.
Define obesity
abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health. A body mass index (BMI) over 25 is considered overweight, and over 30 is obese
Causes of primary polydipsia
OCD, psychosis, anorexia, drug use, hypothalamic injury, traumatic brain injury, demyelination, diabetes insipidus
Causes of secondary polydipsia
diabetes I and II
kidney failure
conns syndrome
addisons disease
sickle cell
diuretics and laxatives antidepressants
dehydration
What are the BMI ranges for different weight categories
Underweight: BMI < 18.5
Healthy weight range: BMI 18.5- 24.9
Overweight range BMI: 25-29.9
Obesity: BMI higher
Class 1 Obesity : 30-34.9
Class 2 Obesity : 35-39.9
Class 3 Obesity: >40
