18
Q

GIST usual age

A

55-65

19
Q

What causes GIST

A

Defect of pacemaker cells (ICCs)

–> mesenchymal tumour

20
Q

What do MALTomas primarily involve?

A

B-cells in lymph nodes

21
Q

What is peptic ulcer disease?

A

Breach of GI mucosa by acid/pepsin attack

22
Q

Where is peptic ulcer disease more common?

A

Developing countries

23
Q

Relieved by eating

A

Duodenal ulcers

24
Q

Exacerbated by eating

A

Gastric ulcers

25
Q

Symptoms of peptic ulcer disease

A

Burning epi pain, loss of appetite and weight, fullness, nausea, dyspepsia, increased acid, reflux

26
Q

Causes of peptic ulcer

A

H.pylori, NSAIDs, smoking/chemical irritants

27
Q

Investigations of H.pylori

A

Stool antigen, C13 urease breath test, serology (IgG)

28
Q

When H.pylori -ve…?

A

Do endoscopy to exclude cancer

29
Q

Treatment of peptic ulcer disease

A
  1. Antacids, H2 antags, PPIs

2. H. pylori eradication

30
Q

H. pylori eradication therapy

A

2 weeks:
OMEPRAZOLE + AMOXICILLIN + CLARITHROMYCIN
(amoxicillin/metronidazole if pen allergic)

31
Q

If triple therapy fails?

A

Stop PPIs for 2 weeks and retry

Try metroclopramide or bismuth chelate
