Disease Investigation Flashcards
Briefly describe differential diagnosis four points
It’s a list of possible causes and they keep differentiating features
Review in light of the information to hand
Differential diagnosis should decrease as diagnostic processes progress
Diagnostic process is basically the process of reducing the differential diagnosis to final diagnosis
In the history taking process what information should be written down?
Timing (when did the problem occur?)?
Animals (what class of animals are affect affected age sex physiology state, what is the prevalence, how are they affected and more of the signs.
Environment (environmental conditions, climate, soils pasture, water, toxic plants, space hygiene, ventilation etc) (what parts of the property have been affected?)?
Past history (is there a history of the condition in the past or on a nearby property? What stock have been introduced and when?)?
During clinical examination, what 6 things should you look for?
Behaviour/demeanour
Thermo regulation (temperature)
Cardiovascular (pulse rate, mucus membranes))
Respiratory
Musculoskeletal system (gate stance)
Nervous system (coordination, reflexes)
Digestive system (feed intake fecal consistency gut sounds.)
Name five examples of collection samples
Blood (haematology)
Plasma and serum (serology)
Faeces (focal egg counts)
Urine, saliva (microbiology)
Tissue biopsy (histopathology or microbiology )
What are the three actions for following a definitive diagnosis?
One.solve immediate problem
2.review long-term control options (especially economics)
3.implement appropriate strategy
