Discuss The Membranes Near The Heart, Lungs And Abdominal Cavity Flashcards
What is the collective name for the membranes that surround the heart?
The Pericardial Membranes.
If looking at a dissected heat. List the layers seen starting from the outer layer?
Fibrous Pericardium Parietal layer of serous pericardium Pericardial Cavity Visceral layer of serous pericardium (epicardium) Myocardium (cardiac muscle) Endocardium.
What are the primary membranes which cover the Lungs?
The lungs are covered by the Parietal Pleura and the visceral Pleura. These are separated by the pleura cavity.
There is a small gap in the membrane linings of the lungs. What is this called and what are their purpose?
These are called the Hilum of the lungs and are where the bronchi enter the lungs.
What are the collective names of the membranes in the abdominopelvic cavity?
The peritoneal membranes.
What are the abdominopelvic membranes called?
Parietal peritoneum, the peritoneal cavity and the visceral peritoneum.
Where is serous fluid secreted from?
The fluid is secreted from both the parietal and visceral membranes.
Where is the serous fluid located?
The serous fluid is located in the cavities between membranes.
What is the purpose of serous fluid?
The fluid allows organs to slide across cavity walls and each other without friction.
