Q

What are the Subdivisions of Anatomy?

A
  • Gross (Macroscopic) Anatomy = Study of large body parts such as the heart, brain, Kidneys and skin.
-Regional Anatomy = All structures in certain body regions (for example a study of the arm would include muscle, bones, skin, blood vessels and nerves.
  • Systemic Anatomy = Body systems studied (for example heart = cardiovascular system+ blood vessels of the whole body.
  • Surface Anatomy = internal structures related to overlaying skin. Usually small body structures requiring microscope.
  • Microscopic Anatomy = Small body structures requiring a microscope. CYTOLOGY = Focuses on cells. HISTOLOGY= Focuses on body tissues.
Developmental Anatomy = structured changes throughout life span. Embryology focuses on developmental anatomy which are changes before birth.
Pathological Anatomy = focuses on disease and structural changes that occur as a result.
Radiographic Anatomy = Focuses on internal structures via X-ray, CT scan and MRI scan.
Molecular Anatomy = Focuses on sub cellular particles.
