Discovering Cells Flashcards
Cell Theory
A widely accepted explanation of the relationship between cells and living things. It explains that cells are the basic units of structure and function in living organisms.
All living things are composed of cells

Multicellular
Multicellular organisms are organisms that consist of more than one cell, in contrast to single-celled organisms.
Unicellular
Made of a single cell
Specialized cells
Some cells in multicellular organisms are created to carry out a particular function. While they have most of the same features as other cells, specialized cells have special structural adaptations that help them do their respective jobs.
Tissue
A group of similar cells that reform a specific function
Organ
Body structure that is composed of different kinds of tissue that work together
Organ system
A group of organs that work together to perform a major function
