DM 4.02.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND POLICE VEHICLE PURSUITS
Authorized emergency response.
•A sworn member may operate a police vehicle under emergency response when engaged in the following:
a) responding to a priority zero, one or two call as defined in directives 8.4
b) when attempting to apprehend the traffic violator
c) when involved in a police vehicle pursuit
Adherence to laws during emergency response.
• The revised statutes suspense compliance with some traffic laws, but does not relieve the member of the responsibility of safe vehicle operations or justify actions that imperil the lives of others
Requirements and restrictions of emergency response.
- Will not go at such a speed that they will lose control
- electronic stability control system will be operated in the default setting
- Will allow safe passage through intersection
- Will pass to the left of vehicles traveling in the same direction if possible
- Will notify public safety communications department when they are responding to a call emergent
DM 4.01.
ROUTINE POLICE VEHICLE OPERATIONS
Vehicle inspection.
•Member will immediately report to supervisor any damage or missing equipment not properly recorded
Seatbelts.
•Will be worn when riding in her driving a city own vehicle unless;
a) not provided,
b) members supervisor allows an exception for a particular situation,
c) A situation arises in which the seatbelt requirement and obtaining prior supervisory approval is impractical
Vehicle operation.
•operate safely and in a prudent manner under normal non-urgent condition
