Direct Vasodilators Flashcards
1
Q
Direct Vasodilarors
A
- Some affect arteries, some veins, and some affect both
- Preload (venous dilation) vs. Afterload (Arterial dilation)
SE profile changes - Lots of diff drugs can do this
2
Q
Direct vasodilator Hydralazine
A
- hydralazine ( Apresoline)
Action: causes direct relaxation of arteriolar smooth muscle
-Primarily used in emergencies to quicklly decrease BP. Given IV
3
Q
Direct vasodilator Hydralazine SAE:
A
- Severe hypotension
- reflex tachycardia
4
Q
Direct vasodilator : nitroprusside (Nitropress)
A
- Causes venous and arteriolar dilation
- DOC for HTN emergency
- Defined as diastolic grater than 120
5
Q
Nitroprusside route
A
IV continous infusion
- effects begin in seconds
- not used longer than 72 hours
- toxic accumulation of thiocyanate
- if increased bv occurs -> manage with furosemide
