Hypersensitivity to med, and acute asthma attacks
Pharmakcokinetics of Diphenhydramine
Metabolized by the liver. Eliminated by urination.
Side effects of Diphenhydramine
CNS: drowsiness
CV: hypotension, palpitations
GI/GU: dry mouth, constipation, nausea, dysuria, polyuria, urinary retention
Resp: chest tightness, thickened bronchial secretions, wheezing
Skin: photosensitivity
Adult dose of Diphenhydramine
25-50mg PO q4-6h prn; (per oral every 4-6 hrs as needed)
Max: 100mg/dose; 400 mg/day
Pediatric 2-5 years old dosage of Diphenhydramine
6.25mg PO q4-6h prn; max: 37.5 mg/day
6-11 years old dosage for Diphenhydramine
12.5-25 mg PO q4-6h prn; max 150mg/day
