Dinosauria Flashcards
What are some of the types of Dinosaurs in the ornithischia?
Stegasaurs
Ankylosaurs
Ceratops (e.g. triceratops)
Placnyecephalasaura
Hadrosaura
What are the two main groups of the saurischia?
Sauropods and Therapods
What is an example of a dinosaur in the Sauropods?
Bratisaurus
What is are examples of a dinosaurs in the therapods?
T-Rex’s (Tyranisauroidea), Veloceraptors, Birds
Describe the ancestral limb movement before dinosaurs?
Muscles attached to Femur and Ilium, upon contraction femur pulls up towards ilium (ischium and pubis pointed backwards)
Describe the sauriscia limb movement?
pubis moves forward, muscles attached between femur and pubis
Describe ornithiscia limb movement?
pubis forward, and also much larger/ l shaped. muscle attachment much further forward on pubis, greater range of motion
What did attachment of muscles to the pubis allow for?
allowed to keep limbs under the body and swinging movement. Forward and Inward movement.
How did large dinosaurs regulate body temperature?
Gigantothermy
What are Haversian canals?
allow for blood vessels growth and allow for bone growth
What are the two types of hypotheses for bird flight?
tree-down hypothesis and ground-up hypothesis
What was ancestral parental care and laying of eggs?
clutches of a bunch of eggs
What was laying of eggs like in Tyranosaurs?
2 ovaries, 2 eggs at a time
What was laying of eggs like in modern birds?
1 ovary, 1 egg at a time
What shape were eggs like in Sauropods and prior?
oval
What shape were eggs like starting in tyranosaurs onwards?
ovalish (pointed end) allows them to roll in circle
