Q

Why would attracting service businesses and industries by hard after deindustrialisation had dinnington?

A

For service business to be successful, you have to have people who have free money to spend on services that may not necessarily be a necessity. In dinnington, population decreased, overall income decreased. So less money to spend, less people to spend it. Service isn’t successful.

14
Q

Deindustrialisation of dinnington didn’t only affect them. Explain and develop

A

It affected everyone that relied on their coal for supply. For example coal from dinnington was sent off to steal manufacturing in cities like Sheffield. And their steel is used for engineering and ship making. So when there’s no coal, there can’t be any of these other things

A

Ship building companies in Asia started making bigger, but CHEAPER ships. And shipbuilding here lacked material to build a good ship (STEEL)

18
Q

What is another name for the domino effect?

A

The cycle of decline

19
Q

What is the cycle of decline/domino effect?

A

It’s when one industry collapses, leading to the collapse of other industries. All of the industries which are interdependent on each other, will all collapse together.

20
Q

How did dinnington suffer from the domino effect? Where else suffered?

A

Local businesses and services took a toll. It lead to the collapse of dinnington itself. As well as this, it lead to the deindustrialisation all across northern uk. The places that relied too heavily on other industries ended up suffering the most. Those places were DISPROPORTIONATELY affected by the DOMINO EFFECT/CYCLE OF DECLINE
