Oesophagus
Peristalsis happens where is pushes food down into the stomach
Stomach
Stores, breaks down and moves food down into the digestive system
Liver
Bile is produced here
Gall bladder
Bile is stored here and neutralises the hydrochloric acid from the stomach before being released into the alimentary canal
Pancreas
Releases pancreatic juice into the small intestine. Some juices like amylase, protease, lipase and others are in there
Small intestine
Duodenum and ileum gets all the absorption. Where the process of absorption takes place
Appendix
Stores healthy parts of the gut bacteria
Large intestine
Where undigested food and waste products continue to go through
Anus
Egestion happens here
Adaptations of the small villus
- The taller it is the larger the surface area is which helps with absorption
- they have a one cell thick wall for quicker absorption and good blood supply
