What are the parts of the digestive system
Stomach, mouth, gallbladder, small intestine, liver, rectum, esophagus, pancreas, pharynx
Function of digestive system
physical and chemical breakdown of food to be absorbed and removes waste.
Function of mouth
receibes the food. Tastes and breaks it down with teeth.
Function of Pharynx
Food enters pharynx from mouth. It is a tube that carries air to trachea and food to esophagus.
Function of Esophagus
Receives bolus (food) and carries it to the stomach
Function of Stomach
receives food from esophagus> Breaks down the food. Holds it and mixes it with acids and enzymes to break it down.
Function of small intestine.
Receives food from stomach. Breaks it down, absorbs nutrients, gets rid of unneccesary materials.
Large intestine function
absoption of water and other nutrients, storage of indegestible materials, synthesis.
Rectum function
Stores indigestables, and other wastes.
Anus function
expels stool.
What is the function of saliva?
Moistens throat and mouth, aids in swallowing and digestion by softening food.
Where do most absorptions take place?
Small Intestine.
What is another name for the large intestine.
Colon
Where does the waste exit the body
Rectum then anus.
