Q

What is the digestive process of carbohydrates

A

Polysaccharides get broken down into smaller polysaccharides in the mouth by amylase.
In the small intestine pancreatic amylase breaks the polysaccharides down into disaccharides. Disaccharides are hydrolyzed by enzymes in the small intestine, this makes it monosaccharides which can be absorbed

Q

What is the digestive process of protein

A

Protein gets digested by pepsin in the stomach, which breaks it down into small polypeptides.
In the small intestine it gets further broken down by enzymes. Until there are amino-acids left which can be absorbed.

Q

Lipids are transported through the lymphatic system, why is that?

A

The molecules are to big to pass through to the arteries

17
Q

What two system makes sure food goes in one direction

A

Sphincters

Peristalsis

18
Q

Why can’t horses throw up?

A

The stomach sphincter is really strong

The esophagus is located at an angle which makes it impossible to throw up.

19
Q

What is the function of the crop in birds

A

Storage pouch

20
Q

What is the function of the proventriculus in birds

A

it the glandular stomach (normal stomach digestion)

21
Q

What is the gizzard in birds

A

It a muscular stomach that grinds the food.
