digestion flashcards exam qs
Describe the processes involved in the absorption and transport of
digested lipid molecules from the ileum into lymph vessels.
- micelles contain bile salts, fatty acids and monoglycerides
- release fatty acids and monoglycerides when come into contact with epithelial cells
- absorbed by diffusion
- recombine in endoplasmic reticulum to form triglycerides
- move out of epithelial cell into lymph vessels by exocytosis
Describe the role of micelles in the absorption of fats into the cells lining
the ileum.
- micelles include bile salts and fatty acids
- release fatty acids when come into contact with epithelial cells
- absorbed by diffusion
What is peristalsis ?
Smooth muscle contraction occurs in the oesophagus to help the food bolus travel down to the stomach
What enzymes are found in pancreatic juices released into duodenum ?
Lipase, amylase, exo and endopetidases
What membrane bound enzymes are found in duodenum ?
Maltase, sucrase and lactase
Matase- broken down into alpha glucose
Sucrase - broken down into glucose and fructose
Lactase- broken down into glucose and galactose
What is the difference between endothelial and epithelial cells ?
Endothelial - on the inside of the body
Epithelial - on the outside of the body
