A chronic inflammatory disease of the GI tract usually involving the ileum and colon, causing pain, diarrhea, abscess and often formation of a fistula
Crohn’s disease
Frequent passage of watery bowel movements

Inflammation of diverticula (small pouches) in wall of the digestive tract, especially the colon

Gastroentritis
Condition caused by reflux of gastric juices into the esophagus resulting in heartburn, regurgitation, inflammation and possible damage to esophagus; caused by weakness of the lower esophageal sphinter
GERD (Gastroesphageal Reflux Disease)
Varicose veins in the rectum associated with pain, bleeding, and sometimes prolapse of the rectum
Hemorrhoids
A protrusion of the stomach through opening (hiatus) in the diaphragm through which the esophagus passes
Hiatal Hernia
Inflammation of the liver; mostly commonly viral
Hepatitis
Chronic stress-related disease characterized by diarrhea, constipation and pain associated with rhythmic intestinal contractions; mucous colitis; spastic colon
IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
Blood present in such small amounts it can only be detected microscopically or chemically; in feces, a sign of intestinal bleeding
Occult Blood
A lesion in the mucous membrane of the esophagus, stomach, or duodenum caused by the action of gastric juice
Peptic Ulcer
Inflammation of membrane lining abdominal cavity and covering abdominal organs; from perforated ulcer, ruptured appendix or reproductive tract infection
Peritonitis
Caused by stomach’s failure to secrete intrinsic factor, a substance needed for absorption of B12
Pernicious Anemia
A tumour that grows on a stalk and bleeds easily
Polyp
A fungal infection of mouth and/or throat caused by Candida; appears as a mucosal white patches or ulcers
Thrush
Chronic ulceration of rectum and colon; cause unknown but may involve autoimmunity
