(16:13-14)
“On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there. One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.”
What happened when Lydia heard Paul’s message?
She responded, became a believer, and was baptized.

When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. ‘If you consider me a believer in the Lord,’ she said, ‘come and stay at my house.’ And she persuaded us.”
Why did the owners of the slave seize Paul and Silas?
They realized their way to make money was gone.

“When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities.”
What were Paul and Silas doing in jail about midnight?
They were praying and singing hymns to God.

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.”
What happened when an earth quake shook the prison?
The doors came open and everyone’s chains loosened.
(16:26)
“Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.”
Why did the jailer draw his sword?
He thought the prisoners had escaped so he was going to kill himself.
(16:27)
“The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped.”
What question did the jailer ask Paul and Silas?
“‘What must I do to be saved?’”
(16:30)
“He then brought them out and asked, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’”
What happened after Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to the jailer and to the others in his house?
The jailer washed Silas and Paul’s wounds. The jailer and his household were baptized.
(16:32-33)
“Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized.”
