Diffusion Flashcards
What is diffusion?
The movement of particles from a high concentration to a low concentration.
What is osmosis?
The movement of water particles across a partially permeable membrane from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration.
What is active transport?
Active transport is the movement of particles across a cell membrane from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration.
How does active transport work in plants?
Minerals are absorbed from the soil into the roots.
How does active transport work in humans?
Active transport happens in the gut. This occurs when there is a lower concentration of nutrients in the gut than there is in the blood. If this is the case, it goes from a lower concentration (gut) to a higher concentration (blood) - going against a concentration gradient.
