Diffusion Flashcards
1
Q
What is diffusion?
A
Diffusion is the spreading out of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
2
Q
In which substances does diffusion happen and why?
A
Diffusion happens in Solutions and gasses. This is because the particles in these substances are free to move about randomly.
3
Q
What effects the rate of diffusion?
A
The bigger the difference in concentration, the faster the rate of diffusion.
4
Q
Name 4 substances that can diffuse through cell membranes.
A
- Oxygen
- Glucose
- Amino acids
- Water
5
Q
Name 2 substances that cannot diffuse through a cell membrane and state why.
A
Starch and Protein because the molecules are too big.
