Cells Flashcards
What is a nucleus?
The part of a cell which contains genetic material that controls the activities of a cell.
What is a cytoplasm?
The part of a cell which contains a gel like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes that control the chemical reactions.
What is a cell membrane?
The part of a cell which holds the cell together and controls what comes in and goes out.
What is a mitochondria?
The part of a cell in which most chemical reactions for respiration take place. Respiration releases energy that the cell needs to work.
What are ribosomes?
The part of a cell in which proteins are made.
What is a rigid cell wall?
Cell walls are made of cellulose. It supports the cell and strengthens it.
What is a vacuole?
It contains cell sap, a weak solution of sugar and salts.
What are chloroplasts?
The pace in a cell where photosynthesis takes place. This makes food for the plant. They contain a green substance called chlorophyll.
What type of cell is yeast?
A single-celled microorganism.
What makes up a yeast cell?
- Nucleus
- Cytoplasm
- Cell membrane
- Cell wall
What type of cell is bacteria?
A single-celled microorganism.
What makes up a bacteria cell?
- Cell membrane
- Cytoplasm
- Cell wall
- Genetic material
What does a bacteria cell not contain that most cells do contain?
A nucleus which leaves the genetic material floating around in the cytoplasm.
